hile there have not been any instances of the pirating

of Ameriena ships in the period under review the danger and

distress of the situation apply to us as well as to thoas

nationalities mare immediately soneurned and in particular

are potentially a common peril

I am therefore in entire accord with the sentiments

expressoć above by the Heads of Legation and intend to sub-

mis the question to my Government with my earnest recomend«

#sion that it fall in with a common consideration of the

matter. To this and my I suggest that the copias of the

Memoranda attnaked deseribing pirasies inflicted on vessele

of certain matianslition be distributed by the Senior

Minister as soon as practicable.
